Nigerian Navy Dismisses Officer Over Disobedience, AWOL

The Nigerian Navy has dismissed a rating identified as SMMEA UMA TU E5618 after disciplinary proceedings found him guilty of serious breaches of military regulations.

In an official statement shared on Tuesday, the Navy said the personnel was culpable of disobedience to lawful orders and absence without official leave (AWOL), both offences punishable under the Armed Forces Act.

According to the statement, the decision followed established internal procedures which confirmed the individual’s misconduct. The offences were described as significant violations of the standards expected of serving military personnel.

The Navy warned the public that the dismissed individual is no longer a member of the service, adding that anyone who engages with him under the assumption that he is still a naval officer does so at their own risk.

Reaffirming its stance, the Navy stressed its commitment to discipline, accountability, and professionalism, noting that strict adherence to orders and regulations remains essential for operational effectiveness.

The development highlights ongoing efforts within the Nigerian military to enforce standards and maintain integrity across its ranks.
