NGX Gains N2.64 Trillion in One Day as All-Share Index Jumps 1.65%

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) market gained approximately N2.64 trillion in market value on Monday as the benchmark All-Share Index jumped 1.65 percent, reversing the decline recorded in the previous week.

Equities market capitalisation rose by N2.642 trillion to N163.161 trillion on October 26, 2026 from N160.519 trillion at the end of the previous trading week.

The NGX All-Share Index climbed 4,068.27 points from 247,222.27 points on Friday to 251,290.54 points, representing a 1.65 percent increase.

Monday’s advance more than erased the 0.13 percent decline recorded in the previous week, when the index fell 317.46 points from 247,539.73 points to 247,222.27 points.

The rebound came after a week characterised by broad selling pressure, during which only 20 equities appreciated while 55 declined.

However, Monday’s sharp increase in the benchmark index did not translate into gains across all of the prominent stocks in the market.

Dangote Cement emerged as the strongest-performing ordinary equity among the securities reported, rising by the maximum 10 percent from N1,111 to N1,222.10.

Honeywell Flour Mills advanced 9.78 percent from N17.90 to N19.65, while Royal Exchange gained 9.18 percent from N0.98 to N1.07.

The gains contrasted with sharp reversals in several stocks that had performed strongly during the previous week.

ABC Transport dropped 9.59 percent from N7.30 to N6.60 after gaining 20.66 percent in the previous week.

Caverton Offshore Support Group similarly declined 9.38 percent to N4.35, immediately following a 17.07 percent weekly gain that had lifted the stock from N4.10 to N4.80.

Livestock Feeds extended its recent retreat, falling another 9.09 percent from N17.05 to N15.50. The stock had already declined 10.26 percent in the previous week after closing the preceding week at N19.

Trading activity also showed a notable shift from Friday’s unusually high-volume session.

Investors exchanged 329.53 million shares worth N25.45 billion in 43,700 deals on Monday, compared with 611.66 million shares worth N23.14 billion in 33,541 deals on Friday.

While trading volume consequently fell by approximately 46.1 percent, transaction value increased by about 10 percent and the number of deals rose roughly 30.3 percent.

Banking stocks dominated the most-active equities table.

Zenith Bank led with 25.92 million shares worth N3.11 billion, followed by UBA with 23.99 million shares valued at N979.61 million and Access Holdings with 18.01 million shares worth N487.83 million.

Fidelity Bank recorded 17.54 million shares valued at N396.98 million, while First HoldCo traded 14.37 million shares worth N2.10 billion.

Combined, the five banking stocks accounted for approximately 99.83 million shares, equivalent to about 30.3 percent of the entire 329.53 million shares traded during the session.

Their combined transaction value stood at approximately N7.07 billion, representing about 27.8 percent of total market turnover value.

The October 26 session therefore marked a strong rebound in headline market valuation and the benchmark index following the previous week’s decline, even as sharp losses persisted in some stocks that had recently recorded substantial gains.
