Netanyahu slams Biden-brokered maritime deal with Lebanon as capitulation to Hizballah threats

In a disappointing move, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid is moving ahead with a Biden-brokered, proposed maritime border agreement with Lebanon. According to former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the deal is “without a debate in the Knesset and without the referendum required.” The implications are enormous, as Hizballah is an Iranian proxy and the agreement involves Israel’s territorial sovereignty.

Deals with mortal enemies do not end well. Critics are slamming the emerging deal as a surrender to Hizballah threats to get points as the next election approaches. The fact that the deal was brokered by Joe Biden’s handlers makes it even more ominous. Biden “is no friend of Israel,” and is even described as “adversarial” to Israel, given his history, which includes his persistent attempts to revive the disastrous Iran deal. Democrats also rejected a measure to provide funds for Israel’s Iron Dome, and blocked attempts to sanction Hamas.

Meanwhile, in another case of Democrat meddling, Netanyahu is reportedly “pissed off” about Democratic Senator Bob Menendez warning Netanyahu against forming a coalition with what Mendendez referenced as “right wing extremists.”

“Lapid has no mandate to hand over sovereign territories and sovereign assets that belong to all of us to an enemy state,” Netanyahu said.

“Yair Lapid shamefully surrendered to [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah’s threats,” Netanyahu stated. “He is giving Hezbollah sovereign territory of the State of Israel with a huge gas reservoir that belongs to you, the citizens of Israel.”

Early on Sunday, Lapid confirmed that Tel Aviv had received a US proposal for maritime border demarcation with Lebanon.

The Israeli premier told his Cabinet that the deal would “strengthen Israel’s security and Israel’s economy,” adding that Israel has been seeking to strike an agreement for more than 10 years….
