The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office (AOO), on Monday coordinated the reception of 32 Nigerian nationals returned from the Republic of Türkiye at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The returnees arrived aboard a chartered aircraft on Monday following an official notification from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to facilitate the safe, orderly, and dignified return of Nigerian citizens.
In line with its statutory mandate, NEMA activated a coordinated reception process involving relevant government agencies and humanitarian partners to ensure the returnees received immediate support upon arrival.
The reception exercise included documentation, profiling, medical screening, and the provision of humanitarian assistance before the returnees were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further reintegration.
Speaking during the exercise, the Head of NEMA Abuja Operations Office, Pharm. Zakari Abubakar, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to protecting the dignity and welfare of vulnerable persons through effective inter-agency collaboration.
He noted that every returning Nigerian deserves to be received with dignity, compassion, and respect, while encouraging the returnees to embrace the opportunity to rebuild their lives and take advantage of available government reintegration programmes.
Pharm. Abubakar also commended the strong collaboration among participating agencies, describing coordinated action as essential to ensuring seamless reception and sustainable reintegration support for returning migrants.
Stakeholders involved in the exercise included the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, airport authorities, security agencies, and other relevant partners.
The reception underscores the Federal Government’s commitment, through NEMA and its partners, to ensuring the humane treatment and successful reintegration of returning Nigerian nationals.
