Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Adamawa State have intercepted 330 kilograms of illicit drugs and arrested one suspect at Namtari Checkpoint in the state.
The seizure was made by the Motorized Patrol Team of the NDLEA Adamawa State Command on the strength of credible intelligence, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Media Team.
The suspect, identified as Attahiru Hussaini of Nasarawo Ward, Kwacham, Mubi South LGA, was intercepted while traveling in a Ford Galaxy bus with registration number JJM-953XD.
A total of 30kg of Tramadol and 300kg of Exol-5 were recovered. The breakdown is: 16kg of Tramadol 250mg — 24,500 tablets; 10kg of Tramadol 100mg — 1,870 capsules; 4kg of Tramadol 50mg — 1,160 capsules; and 300kg of Exol-5 — 750,000 tablets.
According to the NDLEA, the drugs were concealed inside the bus carrying soaps in an attempt to evade detection.
Attahiru Hussaini was arrested in connection with the seizure and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The NDLEA Adamawa State Command said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the illicit drug supply chain in the Northeast.
The statement, signed by ASN Abner Yusha of the Media Team, reiterated the Command’s commitment to “disrupting the illicit drug trade and protecting communities from the dangers of drug abuse.”
The agency urged members of the public to provide timely information to security agencies and called on Nigerians to join the #WarAgainstDrugAbuse campaign to build a #DrugFreeSociety.
Investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion, the NDLEA said.
