The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Bon Bread, Maria Umeagwukadilo, has broken her silence amid the ongoing controversy surrounding a viral TikTok video that questioned the safety of her company’s bread products allegedly lasting for two months.
She expressed concern over the impact of the video on her brand, saying years of hard work were being affected by a short social media clip.
“It Pains Me After 20 Years of Hard Work”
In a now-viral video, the CEO said she founded Bon Bread in 2006 and has spent two decades building the company from a small operation into a large enterprise employing dozens of staff and supporting many more indirectly.
She said: “It pains me that after putting in 20 years of hard work, somebody on social media with a two-minute clip will cause so much damage.”
She explained that the business started at a difficult point in her life and has grown over the years through consistent effort and commitment to quality.
Commitment to Quality and Standards
Umeagwukadilo maintained that Bon Bread operates under strict food safety regulations and adheres to standards set by relevant bodies, including NAFDAC.
She also noted that the company operates a production model based on daily orders to ensure freshness.
“From day one I have always ensured that my products meet the standard recommended by regulatory bodies. We produce bread daily based on orders,” she said.
Reaction to Viral Video
The controversy began after a TikTok user posted a video claiming that a loaf of bread remained fresh for about two months. ... sparked widespread debate online, with many users linking the claim to Bon Bread.
The CEO said she initially dismissed the video but later took action after receiving multiple calls from distributors and associates.
She added that attempts to reach the content creator for clarification were unsuccessful, saying she had been blocked from communication channels.
Call for Verification and Transparency
Umeagwukadilo challenged the claims made in the video, urging the public to test the product themselves rather than rely on social media narratives.
“I told her let’s go and test the bread she is talking about, but she is not taking calls,” she said.
She also announced plans to release documentation including regulatory approvals and laboratory tests to support her company’s standards.
Appeal to the Public
The CEO further appealed to customers and the general public to continue supporting the brand while the issue is being addressed.
She expressed confidence that the truth would eventually come out and thanked loyal customers for their continued support.
“We will get to the end of this matter and we will see the truth from the lies,” she said.
