Nigerian passport holders can access 44 destinations around the world without obtaining a traditional visa before travelling, according to the July 2026 Henley Passport Index.
Nigeria ranked 90th globally in the latest ranking, with its passport providing access to 44 destinations under Henley’s “visa-free score”.
However, the 44 destinations should not all be described as strictly visa-free. The entry arrangements vary, with some countries offering visa-free entry, while others provide visas on arrival, electronic visas or electronic travel authorisation.
Countries that are strictly visa-free
According to the current Passport Index Nigeria dashboard, these destinations are classified as visa-free for Nigerian passport holders:
– Barbados — 180 days
– Benin — 90 days
– Burkina Faso
– Cameroon — 90 days
– Cape Verde — visa-free, but EASE registration is required
– Chad — 90 days
– Côte d’Ivoire — 90 days
– Dominica — 180 days
– Fiji — 120 days
– The Gambia — 90 days
– Ghana — 90 days
– Guinea
– Guinea-Bissau
– Haiti — 90 days
– Kenya — 60 days
– Kiribati — 90 days
– Liberia
– Mali
– Micronesia — 30 days
– Niger
– Rwanda — 30 days
– Senegal — 90 days

Passport Index currently records 25 destinations in this category for Nigerian passport holders.
Countries offering visa on arrival
Nigerians can also travel to some destinations where the visa is issued after arrival rather than obtained from an embassy before departure.

– Maldives — 30 days
– Mauritius — 14 days
– Mozambique — 30 days
– Palau — 30 days
– Samoa — 90 days
– Timor-Leste — 30 days
– Tuvalu — 30 days
Passport Index also lists Burundi, Cambodia, Djibouti and Madagascar under both eVisa and visa-on-arrival arrangements.
Countries with eVisa or electronic travel requirements
Some destinations on the wider 44-destination list do not offer straightforward visa-free entry.
Burundi: eVisa or visa on arrival, depending on the applicable procedure.
Cambodia: eVisa or visa on arrival.
Djibouti: eVisa or visa on arrival.
Madagascar: eVisa or visa on arrival.
Iran: eVisa. It should therefore not be described as a visa-on-arrival destination.
Countries with special entry arrangements
Seychelles: Nigerian travellers do not need a visa, but they must complete the required tourist registration and meet the country’s entry conditions.
Saint Kitts and Nevis: Passport Index currently lists an eTA for Nigerian travellers, rather than conventional visa-free entry.

What Nigerian travellers should know
The Henley Passport Index’s figure of 44 does not mean Nigerian travellers can simply arrive in every destination without any immigration procedure.
Henley’s ranking measures destinations that can be accessed without obtaining a visa in advance, which is broader than the strict “visa-free” classification used by Passport Index.
Passport Index currently gives the Nigerian passport 25 visa-free destinations, 24 visa-on-arrival destinations and two eTA destinations.
Travellers should therefore check the latest entry requirements before booking flights, particularly where an eVisa, electronic authorisation, tourist registration or visa-on-arrival process is required.
