Abia State University (ABSU) has suspended a lecturer, Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze from the Department of Economics, following comments he reportedly made about the earnings of lecturers and commercial tricycle operators within the institution.

The professor allegedly stated in a post shared on Facebook that keke drivers at the university earn more than professors, while also claiming that lecturers earn less than N400,000 per month.
His comments subsequently drew the attention of the university management.
A suspension notice issued by the university was released on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The statement was signed by Chijioke Nwogu, the Public Relations Officer/Deputy Registrar of Abia State University.
According to the institution, an investigative panel has been constituted to examine the matter and determine the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s comments.
