Victims abducted during the deadly Woro kidnapping incident in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom, bringing an end to months of uncertainty for their families and communities.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on New Media, Olayinka Fafoluyi, in a brief statement shared via WhatsApp.
Although details surrounding the victims’ release were not immediately disclosed, Fafoluyi expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies and everyone involved in securing the freedom of the captives.

“Details later,” the statement read.
The Kwara State Government is expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the rescue and the condition of the victims.
The Woro Kidnapping
The victims were abducted during a brutal attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area on February 3, 2026.
The assault, described by residents as one of the worst attacks recorded in the area, saw heavily armed insurgents invade the communities, killing several people and destroying homes and businesses.

According to reports at the time, more than 50 gunmen stormed Woro at about 5:00 p.m., opening fire on residents before setting houses, shops and public buildings ablaze.
Following the attack, 176 women and children were reportedly taken away by the attackers, sparking nationwide concern and calls for urgent government intervention.
The incident drew widespread condemnation and intensified concerns over the growing security challenges affecting parts of Kwara State and neighbouring communities.
While the victims have now regained their freedom, authorities are yet to disclose whether the release resulted from a military operation, negotiations or any other intervention.
