Israel foils Hamas jihad bombing plot to target soldiers returning home for Sabbath

Israel’s domestic security agency foiled a bombing attack planned by the Islamic terrorist organization Hamas, Israeli media reported Friday. The Shin Bet security agency arrested two Arab Israeli men who were recruited by the Gaza-based terrorist group to carry out a bombing to coincide with the recent Israeli election.

Two suspected identified as 24-year-old Muhammad Amin Moslah and 28-year-old Mohammad Fayad Mahamid, were scouting for potential targets that might cause maximum casualties among Israeli soldiers, primarily aimed at young conscripts returning home over the weekend.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the terrorist duo intended “to carry out the attack against the soldiers at a bus station near the Golani Brigade training base, which is located in the area near Kafr Kara as it is packed with IDF soldiers, especially on Thursdays,” ahead of the Jewish Sabbath.

“Shin Bet says it foiled election day bomb plot by 2 Arab men enlisted by Hamas,” by Emanuel Fabian, Times of Israel, February 3, 2023:

The Shin Bet security agency on Friday said it foiled an attempt by the Gaza-ruling Hamas terror group to carry out a bombing attack on the day of Israel’s recent elections using two Arab Israeli men.

Several weeks ago Mohammed Amin Muslah, 24, and Mohammed Faid Mahmeed, 28, both residents of the northern village of Mu’awiya, were detained over their involvement in the plot.

According to the Shin Bet, Muslah was recruited by the military wing of Hamas, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, to carry out a bombing against civilians when Israelis went to the polls on November 1. (…)

The pair conducted surveillance operations at several bus stops frequented by soldiers between the town of Binyamina-Giv’at Ada and Kafr Qara, practiced with a makeshift “Carlo” submachine gun, and sought to find a stolen car for the attack, according to the Shin Bet.

Ultimately, the pair picked a bus stop outside the Golani training base, near Kafr Qara, as their target, “since this stop is packed with IDF soldiers mainly on Thursdays,” the security agency said.

The revelation comes as Israel faces another wave of Palestinian terror. Last Thursday, the Israeli military busted a West Bank terror cell belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist group, eliminating nine jihad operatives who were planning imminent attacks aimed at Israeli civilians. The following day, a Palestinian terrorist gunned down seven Jewish worshippers and wounded several others as they were leaving a synagogue in East Jerusalem. Hamas terrorists, hiding behind Gaza residents, have also resumed rocket fire at town and cites in southern Israel.
