The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjusted the campaign timeline for the Osun State governorship election, following a one-week shift in the polling date.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the revision aligns with the updated electoral calendar.
“Recall that on 26 February 2026, INEC issued the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and adjusted the Osun State Governorship Election forward by one week – from 8 August 2026 to 15 August,” the statement read.
As a result of this change, the deadline for political campaigns in the state has been brought forward to comply with statutory provisions.
INEC confirmed that campaigns must now end at midnight on Thursday, 13 August 2026 – in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which stipulates that campaigning shall cease 24 hours before election day.
The commission called on all political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to strictly observe the revised timeline to ensure a smooth electoral process.
“INEC remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections,” the statement added.
