Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth has advised patriotic Nigerians to prioritise their lives, saying no one should sacrifice themselves for the country.
The entertainer shared the message on his Instagram Story, stressing that personal survival is far more important than becoming a temporary trending topic on social media.

According to him, people who lose their lives for Nigeria are often remembered only briefly before the internet moves on to the next trending issue.
“Whatever you do in this life, don’t die for Nigeria. You’re more valuable alive than as a trending hashtag. A trending hashtag that might possibly last a few days,” he wrote.

This comes just days after the father of three urged people to remain grateful to God, saying waking up healthy every morning is a blessing that should never be taken for granted.
The filmmaker also recently criticised society for celebrating failure and giving more attention to scandals than genuine achievements, accusing Nigerian blogs of turning negativity into premium content while excellence struggles to make headlines.
While some social media users agreed with Basketmouth’s message, others argued that patriotism should not be dismissed despite the country’s challenges.
Basketmouth’s latest comment has added to ongoing conversations about patriotism, sacrifice, and the realities many Nigerians face.
