If Ilhan Omar is Offended by Being Compared to Terrorists, Maybe She Should Stop Comparing America to Terrorists

Rep. Ilhan Omar is outraged and offended. As usual.

United States House Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, a Democrat, called Friday for House leaders to take “appropriate action” against Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert for using anti-Muslim language in describing a recent encounter she had with Omar at the US Capitol.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House Democratic leaders demanded Boebert retract her comments.

Has Pelosi demanded that Omar retract any of her antisemitic comments?

According to a video clip posted by a Twitter account called PatriotTakes, Boebert made the remarks this holiday break. In it, she says she and a staffer were taking a Capitol elevator when she saw an alarmed Capitol police officer running toward them. She said she turned to her left and spotted Omar standing beside them.

“Well, she doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine,” Boebert recalled saying, drawing laughs from her audience. “And I said, ‘Oh look, the jihad squad decided to show up for work today.’”

The Jihad Squad is not amused.

“Saying I am a suicide bomber is no laughing matter,” Omar tweeted. “@GOPLeader and @SpeakerPelosi need to take appropriate action, normalizing this bigotry not only endangers my life but the lives of all Muslims. Anti-Muslim bigotry has no place in Congress.”

Some people said something, as Rep. Omar once observed.

But if Omar is offended by the suggestion, maybe she should stop playing into it.

Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, in a newly resurfaced clip of an old interview, joked about people saying “Al Qaeda” and “Hezbollah” in a severe tone — while noting nobody says words like “America” that way.

“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. … The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up,” Omar said during an interview from 2013 when she was an activist within the Somali community, chuckling as she imitated the professor saying “Al Qaeda” and “Hezbollah.”

Omar went on to contrast the way people say the names of terror groups with how they pronounce the names of western powers:

“But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “… But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.”

Omar says things like this a lot.

On Monday, Ms Omar tweeted that “we have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the US, Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban”.

Ms. Omar is deeply offended at being compared to Hamas, the Taliban, and the U.S.
