An ex-Muslim lady identified as Grace has opened up on her Muslim mother’s painful reaction after she revealed she had become a Christian.
Grace shared her experience in a Facebook post, describing the moment as one of the most difficult periods of her life because she was afraid of hurting her mother, who she said had sacrificed a lot for the family.
‘I Don’t Want to Go to the Mosque Anymore’
Grace recalled that the incident happened one morning when she and her siblings were expected to attend Quranic school.
She said she initially refused to get out of bed when her siblings called her. When her mother eventually came to ask why she did not want to go, Grace said she gathered the courage to reveal that she had become a Christian.
“I don’t want to go to the mosque anymore because I am now a Christian,” she recalled telling her mother.
According to Grace, her mother was so shocked that she appeared not to have heard what she had said. She said her mother called another family member and asked her to repeat the statement.
Grace said she was too frightened to speak clearly at first but eventually repeated: “I am now a Christian.”
‘My Mother Immediately Began Crying’
Grace claimed that her mother immediately started crying after hearing the revelation.
She also alleged that another family member became angry, pushed her against a wall and held her there for some time.
According to her account, the family member questioned why she wanted to bring shame and disgrace to the family.
Grace said seeing her mother cry deeply affected her.
“Seeing my mother cry broke my heart. I went away and cried too,” she wrote.
She further recalled that her mother later left the house with her youngest child, telling her that she had disgraced her.
‘I Have Torn the Family’
Grace said the situation became even more painful when her siblings allegedly blamed her for their mother’s departure.
“At some point my mother took our youngest sibling and left the house saying I have disgraced her,” she wrote.
“While she was away the rest of my siblings came telling me I have torn the family and made our mother to leave.”
Grace said her mother eventually returned after one of her friends pleaded with her to come back.
She described the period as one of the most painful experiences of her life but said she remained committed to her Christian faith.
“Those were some of the most painful days of my life, if not for the grace of God I would have gone back,” she stated.
‘God Has Brought Healing to Our Relationship’
Grace said that, despite the difficult beginning, her relationship with her family has improved over time.
“With time, God has brought healing to our relationship, although my family still wishes I would return to Islam,” she wrote.
She added that she continues to pray for her family to embrace Christianity and understand the reason behind her decision.
Grace also used her experience to encourage Muslims who may be afraid of telling their families about a new Christian faith.
“To any Muslim afraid of telling your family about your about new found faith in Jesus Christ, I know how it feels, I have been there. Be strong. At the right time God will give you the wisdom to do it,” she wrote.
“My prayer remains that the same light that reached us will one day reach our entire family in Jesus name,” Grace added.
