“I can’t carry this” — InDrive rider laments as customer refuses to cancel oversized delivery

An InDrive rider has criticised the ride-hailing platform’s cancellation policy after a customer allegedly left him stranded for nearly two hours over an oversized package he could not carry.

In a video circulating online, the biker expressed frustration over what he described as the unfair treatment of riders by some customers, claiming that the platform’s rules made it difficult for them to reject unsuitable delivery requests.

Rider explains what happened

According to the rider, he arrived at the pickup location around 1 p.m. after contacting the customer to confirm the nature of the item he was expected to transport.

He said the customer described the package as a uniform and assured him that it would fit into his delivery bag.

However, upon arrival, he discovered that the item was a large Ghana Must Go bag, which he said was too big for his bag.

“I told them, I cannot carry this thing. Can you please cancel this thing?” he said, explaining that he had politely asked the customer to cancel the request.

The rider alleged that the customer initially agreed but subsequently refused to cancel the order, leaving him waiting at the location.

Complains about six-hour suspension

The biker attributed his inability to cancel the request himself to what he described as an InDrive policy that could prevent riders from working for six hours after cancelling a job.

He said the policy placed him in a difficult position because cancelling the request could affect his ability to earn money for the rest of the day.

“I have been at the mercy of this particular customer, begging and begging for almost two hours now,” he said.

The rider also alleged that the customer attempted to arrange another rider through a different platform to transport the same package after he had declined to carry it.

He questioned why a customer would refuse to cancel a request when the assigned rider had explained that the package was unsuitable for his delivery bag.

Calls for fair treatment of riders

Expressing disappointment over the incident, the rider argued that customers should consider the time, fuel and other expenses riders incur when handling delivery requests.

He maintained that riders should not be forced to accept items they cannot safely or practically transport.

“We can do better, Nigerians. We can do better,” he said, describing the experience as unfair.
