“I Am Cleaning The Mess They Created, Atiku Was One Of Them” — Tinubu Blames Former Leaders For Hunger, Questions Atiku’s University

*Tells “Fubara, You Will Not Regret Your Actions”

President Bola Tinubu has blamed the widespread hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria on the actions of previous political leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, insisting that his administration is working to correct the problems inherited from past governments.

Tinubu specifically accused Atiku, his African Democratic Congress (ADC) rival in the 2027 presidential election, of using public resources for personal advantage while serving as Vice President.

The President made the allegations on Saturday, November 7, 2026, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Addressing party supporters and political stakeholders, Tinubu rejected criticisms of his administration over the prevailing economic hardship, maintaining that those complaining about hunger included individuals who contributed to the country’s current difficulties.

According to him, his administration is addressing problems created by previous political officeholders rather than being solely responsible for the economic challenges confronting Nigerians.

“Those people talking of hunger, I am cleaning the mess they created. Atiku was one of them,” Tinubu declared.

The President subsequently questioned the circumstances surrounding the establishment of Atiku’s private university while he was serving as Vice President.

He alleged that Atiku benefited personally from resources that should have served the Nigerian public.

“Ask him how he built a university while in office as Vice President in charge of our economy. Who built the University for him? It is your money!” Tinubu stated.

The President’s remarks were directed at Atiku’s record in public office and his criticism of the current administration’s economic policies.

Tinubu maintained that the hardship facing Nigerians could not be separated from the decisions of political leaders who had previously occupied positions of authority.

He insisted that his administration was making efforts to address the consequences of those decisions and restore the country’s economic stability.

His allegation concerning the financing of Atiku’s university was presented as a political accusation. The President did not provide documentary evidence during the remarks to establish that public funds were used to establish the institution.

Beyond his criticism of Atiku, Tinubu also addressed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, assuring him that he would not regret his recent political decisions or his support for the APC and the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

The President recalled his intervention during the political crisis in Rivers State, which had generated disagreements among political stakeholders and threatened the stability of the state government.

Tinubu described the crisis as a misunderstanding within a political family and said he had intervened on Fubara’s behalf to facilitate a resolution.

He commended the governor for demonstrating maturity, respecting elders and cooperating with efforts to restore peace.

“Fubara, you will not regret what you have done. During the crisis created by misunderstanding in the family, for me, I intervened on your behalf,” Tinubu said.

The President also praised Fubara’s attitude during the reconciliation process, describing him as a committed democrat.

“I want to thank you specifically for maturity, respect for elders, you respect our positions, you are a committed democrat, you will not regret your actions,” he added.

Tinubu’s reassurance followed Fubara’s public declaration of support for the President’s re-election bid during the same campaign rally.

The Rivers State Governor had pledged that the state would deliver three million votes for Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election.

Fubara also expressed support for the political cooperation between the APC and the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.

The President’s remarks therefore combined criticism of his political opponents over Nigeria’s economic challenges with an endorsement of Fubara’s recent political decisions.

While Tinubu maintained that his administration was correcting the economic problems created by previous governments, he also presented the Rivers political reconciliation as an example of cooperation and maturity.

The rally attracted APC leaders, governors, political stakeholders and supporters as the ruling party continued its campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu used the occasion to defend his administration against criticism over hunger, challenge Atiku’s record as Vice President and reaffirm his support for Governor Fubara following the political crisis in Rivers State.
