Seriake Dickson, who leads the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), said that Peter Obi and other party leaders offered Aisha Yesufu a chance to run for a seat in the House of Representatives, but she declined.
Dickson made this statement on Thursday at a media conference, where he addressed questions about how candidates are chosen and recent disagreements within the party before the 2027 elections.
The former Bayelsa governor said most people were unaware of the party’s efforts to include prominent figures like Yesufu, a well-known activist and supporter of Obi.
Do you know that Peter Obi and I offered Aisha House of Reps? You the public, you don’t know,” Dickson said.
“She turned it down. House of Representatives that people are fighting for, she said she’s too big for it.”
Although the former governor did not specify when the offer was made, his remark suggested it was part of broader discussions over the allocation of elective positions within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
His comments come amid reports of disagreements within the NDC over the conduct of primaries and the distribution of party tickets
Yesufu, who once led the #BringBackOurGirls movement and is a well-known supporter of the Obidient movement, showed interest in running for a Senate seat in the FCT but later withdrew.
On May 6, after moving from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, Yesufu announced she would run in the 2027 FCT Senate race.
She explained that her leadership experience in the ADC influenced her decision.
However, less than a month later, she left the race after the party reportedly gave the FCT Senate ticket to Amanda Pam, who had been a member before Yesufu.
