Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN/ASUU) Agreement, with payment of arrears for Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), Professorial Allowance, and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA).
Gov. Buni’s approval of payment for the allowances followed the report on review of welfare and remuneration of academic staff by the state Fact-Finding Committee which was earlier presented to the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje.
The committee visited some selected state-owned universities across Nigeria to investigate, compare and report what is obtained in other state Universities
Gov. directed payment of the approved allowances to commence with effect from August 2026, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence, promoting industrial harmony, and sustaining quality higher education in Yobe State.
The approval covers Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), Professorial Allowance, and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), making Yobe State one of the leading states implementing the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement to enhance staff welfare and improve academic excellence.
Receiving the report earlier, the Ag. SSG, Dr. Mohammed Goje commended the committee for its commitment to the assignment with a high sense of responsibility to improve industrial harmony between the government and ASUU.
Prof. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa, Commissioner for Higher Education and Chairman of the Committee, said the committee visited Bauchi State University, Kaduna State University (KASU) and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano, among others.
The Chairman who was represented by Prof. Mohammed Musa Lawan, appealed for research grants, annual salary increments, improved welfare incentives, sustained funding of tertiary institutions to enhance efficiency and academic excellence.
The Yobe State University Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Muhammad Adam, expressed appreciation of the union to Gov. Buni for exhibiting commitment to the welfare of its members and support quality education.
The chairman charged members of the union to reciprocate the gesture through dedication to duty to achieve excellence, industrial harmony, and research.
