A woman has shared how her friend’s financial arrangement with her husband became a source of conflict after he received a salary increase and decided to keep part of his income.
According to the woman, her friend’s husband had always given her his entire salary every month because he believed a woman should be responsible for managing the home.
She said her friend used the money to pay rent, buy food, cater for their children’s expenses and even give her husband pocket money whenever he needed it.
Husband changes financial arrangement after promotion
The situation reportedly changed after the man received a promotion and his salary increased.
The woman said the husband told his wife that he wanted to start keeping some of his income because he planned to buy a car.
However, his decision reportedly did not go down well with his wife, who had become accustomed to managing his entire salary.
She told him, “But you gave me your salary before. Why are you suddenly changing the arrangement?”
The man reportedly responded, “Because giving you my entire salary was my choice, not my obligation.”
Couple disagree over financial expectations
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a serious argument, with the woman feeling that her husband was changing the arrangement after she had built her financial responsibilities around it.
Her husband, however, reportedly felt that his wife had become too entitled to his money.
The woman who shared the story said she eventually asked her friend a question that left her thinking.
She asked, “If he had never given you his salary from the beginning, would you still expect him to?”
According to her, her friend went quiet, leaving her unsure about who was right in the dispute.
The story has sparked a wider conversation about financial arrangements in marriage, particularly whether a spouse’s voluntary financial support can eventually become an expected obligation.
