Forty criminals from Afghanistan boarded the evacuation aircraft from Kabul to Germany in August last year. This is what the news magazine “Focus” reports, citing internal reports for the Bundestag investigative committee that is examining the chaotic withdrawal of soldiers, diplomats and Afghan local staff from the Central Asian country.
According to Focus, the criminal Afghans were only identified after landing in Germany. Six men were wanted with German arrest warrants and immediately taken into custody. They are accused of rape, drug trafficking and supporting terrorist groups. The majority of the previously convicted Afghans who were flown out had been deported from Germany years ago, reports “Focus.” Immediately after landing, they made new applications for asylum. According to internal committee reports, the men at Kabul Airport used force to gain access to the evacuation planes. For the rescue of around 100 Germans who were outside the airport grounds last August, the federal government is said to have paid the Taliban a high protection fee, reports “Focus,” citing Berlin security circles. With the help of the USA, a standstill agreement was reached with the Islamist militias in order not to endanger the helicopter operations of the Bundeswehr’s elite unit, the Special Forces Command (KSK).
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defense did not want to confirm or deny money payments when asked by “Focus.” “For reasons of operational security” no statements are made about military action, it said.
