A farmer has been killed in a fresh attack by suspected gunmen in Butura Gida village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident was contained in a post shared on X by security analyst, Zagazola Makama on Thursday.
According to the post, the attack happened at about 7:47 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8. Troops of Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace were said to have rushed to the community after receiving a distress call.
However, by the time security personnel arrived, the attackers had fled the area. The troops reportedly found the lifeless body of the farmer but were unable to trace the assailants.
Security sources quoted by Zagazola said a manhunt has been launched to identify and arrest those behind the attack.
The latest killing comes less than 24 hours after another violent incident in Plateau State, where a 13-year-old herder, identified as Mustapha Abdul Kadir, was reportedly found dead alongside four cattle in Mangu Local Government Area.
According to Makama, authorities were said to suspect that armed militia carried out the attack.
Earlier the same day, two residents were also reportedly killed in Torok community in Riyom Local Government Area in an attack blamed on suspected Fulani bandits.
Makama revealed that series of attacks have raised fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in Plateau State, where repeated clashes and reprisal attacks between farming and herding communities have continued to claim lives and destroy livelihoods.
