Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former commercial motorcycle rider for allegedly attempting to smuggle methamphetamine into Nigeria by swallowing 100 wraps of the illicit drug.
The suspect was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, after arriving on a flight from Uganda.
The agency disclosed the arrest on Sunday through its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a post shared on his X account.
According to Babafemi, the suspect had spent about 15 years working as an Okada rider in Lagos before allegedly joining an international drug trafficking syndicate in search of a better life.
He said the suspect’s plan ultimately failed after NDLEA operatives intercepted him at the airport and recovered the narcotics he had ingested.
“After 15 years of working as an Okada rider in Lagos, this individual decided to forcefully upgrade and change his social status by joining a transnational drug trafficking organisation,” Babafemi stated.
“That dream has not only crumbled but is ending in premium tears following his arrest at the Lagos airport by NDLEA officers after excreting a whopping 100 wraps of methamphetamine he ingested in far away Uganda.”
The arrest is the latest in a series of interceptions by the NDLEA aimed at dismantling international drug trafficking networks operating through Nigeria’s airports.
