FG Begins NERSI ₦50,000 Monthly Cash Transfer for Nigerians — How to Receive Payment

The Federal Government has announced the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), a presidential initiative providing immediate financial assistance to vulnerable Nigerians.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction (FMHAPR) announced the programme on October 30, 2026, citing rising food inflation and the high cost of essential goods.

Under NERSI, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly to help meet basic needs and ease pressure on household budgets. The intervention will be reviewed regularly as living costs change. Beneficiaries will be notified directly before any adjustment.

The Ministry said it is working with licensed digital financial service providers to deliver payments securely and transparently. Beneficiaries will receive an SMS asking for consent from one of the providers. The message is genuine, the Ministry said. After consent is given, payment will be made directly into the beneficiary’s account or mobile wallet.

NERSI complements existing Federal Government social protection and economic support programmes. It is intended to provide immediate relief while supporting household resilience and economic stability under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Ministry said the intervention would be delivered with dignity, transparency and accountability.

What beneficiaries should know

The Ministry has not provided additional eligibility details in this announcement.

How to receive payment

Beneficiaries do not need to apply or register through an agent. They should wait for an SMS from an approved digital financial service provider and provide consent as instructed. If unsure about a message, or if anyone demands payment, call the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
