The Federal Government has explained how beneficiaries of the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) will receive their ₦50,000 cash support.
The programme, under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, provides financial assistance to poor and vulnerable Nigerian households.
According to the ministry, payments will be made directly to beneficiaries through mobile wallets operated by ALAT, MoMo and NairaGram.
Beneficiaries will receive a text message notifying them that they have been selected for the programme. The message will come from one of the approved financial service providers.
Those who receive the message must reply YES to give their consent before payment can be made.
After consent, their mobile wallets will be opened and linked to their phone numbers and National Identification Numbers (NIN).
The ministry said beneficiaries would receive ₦50,000 in their wallets, which they can withdraw through a bank or Point of Sale (POS) agent, or spend directly from the wallet.
The government also warned that beneficiaries should not pay anyone to access the support. There are no registration fees, middlemen or charges for receiving the money.
Beneficiaries should be careful of fake SMS messages and people demanding money to secure a place on the list.
Those who have received a message but are unsure about what to do can contact the programme’s helpline for assistance.
The ministry said payments would only be made after beneficiaries consented to participate. It also stated that payment cycles would be independently verified.
