Federal High Court Orders DSS Remand of Blogger Over Alleged False Military Claims

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of blogger Chidiebere Justice Mark in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) following his arraignment on allegations of publishing false claims regarding the feeding of Nigerian military personnel.

Mark, resident at Plot 88 Sabo Lugbe, Abuja, was charged by the DSS over a viral video posted on his X handle, Justice Crack, in which he allegedly made the contentious claim. He pleaded not guilty to the three‑count charge when read in open court.

Prosecuting counsel, Emmanuel Orubo, requested an adjournment to enable the prosecution to open its case and urged the court to remand the defendant in DSS custody. Defence counsel, Marshall Abubakar, made an oral application for bail, which the court declined, directing instead that a formal bail application be filed.

In her ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that the defendant remain in DSS custody and adjourned the matter to May 25, 2026, for commencement of trial and consideration of any bail application.
