The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced its 2026 promotion exercise for more than 13,000 civil servants across the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
The exercise, which began on Wednesday, July 1, is expected to run for 10 days, with eligible officers across about 150 cadres and grade levels participating in the promotion process.
Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, disclosed that the exercise was approved by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as part of efforts to strengthen career progression within the FCT public service.
According to Ezeh, the minister directed that the 2026 promotion exercise be concluded before the end of the year to ensure that all qualified officers receive timely career advancement without unnecessary delays.
He added that Wike also instructed the commission to collaborate closely with relevant departments and agencies under the FCTA to guarantee a seamless and transparent exercise.
The minister further emphasised the need to address the challenges that affected previous promotion exercises, urging officials to put adequate measures in place to prevent a recurrence.
Ezeh assured workers that all necessary arrangements had been completed to ensure a smooth and credible promotion process.
He encouraged participants to remain orderly, cooperate with officials and approach the exercise with confidence, wishing them success in the computer-based promotion examination.

The FCT Civil Service Commission made history in 2024 when it introduced computer-based testing (CBT) for promotion examinations, becoming the first civil service commission in Nigeria to adopt the technology as part of its promotion process.
The commission said the initiative reflects ongoing reforms aimed at promoting transparency, efficiency and merit-based advancement within the FCT civil service.
