The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man, Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl inside a vehicle near the Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja.
According to police authorities, medical examinations have confirmed that the victim is three months pregnant as a result of the ongoing abuse.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the details in a statement released on Saturday.
The incident came to light on October 2 when officers from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit were conducting a routine patrol in the area.
Officers noticed a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ—parked with its windows completely wound up. Suspicion grew when officers observed the parked vehicle visibly shaking.
Upon approaching and opening the vehicle, police operatives caught the suspect in the act. Halilu was promptly detained, and the minor was safely rescued.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect had repeatedly lured the underage victim into the vehicle at the same location. He allegedly subjected her to sexual abuse multiple times, backing his threats with warnings of physical harm if she reported the assault.
The victim is currently receiving specialized medical care and psychological assessment. Meanwhile, police confirmed that Halilu remains in custody and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are finalized.
