The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media and purportedly written by the former governor from detention.
The controversial document, allegedly dated July 14, 2026, claimed El-Rufai wrote to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), raising concerns over the nomination of Isah Ashiru Kudan and warning that the decision could create divisions within the party.
However, the El-Rufai family has described the document as a complete fabrication, urging Nigerians to ignore it.
The denial was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, the letter neither originated from the former Kaduna governor nor reflected his writing style, language or handwriting.
The family described the document as another attempt by political opponents to spread falsehood and create unnecessary tension.
Rejecting the contents of the viral document, the family argued that both the language and handwriting exposed it as a poorly executed forgery.
“The former Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, CON, wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him, titled Urgent Message,” the statement read.
It continued, “The spurious letter, purportedly dated 14 July 2026 and addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, should be disregarded as the shabby fake that it is. Neither the poor content nor the handwriting have anything to do with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.”

The family alleged that those behind the document were attempting to sow confusion and deepen divisions through misinformation.
Describing the incident as “primitive politics,” the statement urged members of the public not to be misled by what it called a desperate attempt to tarnish El-Rufai’s image.
“The fake letter shows another resort to desperation by Mallam’s traducers who seek to sow confusion and division. Their attempt at politics by fakery should be dismissed and condemned. It is an instance of the most primitive politics and its sponsors should be ashamed of themselves,” the statement added.
The family, therefore, called on Nigerians to disregard both the letter and the claims contained in it, insisting that the former governor had no connection whatsoever with the document circulating online.
