A man named Godfrey Baguma, often mocked and cruelly labeled as the “ugliest man in the world” by some, has shared his journey of love and resilience with his wife, Kate.

Despite facing harsh criticism and ridicule, the couple has been happily married for 28 years and are proud parents of eight children.
In an interview with ‘Afrimax’, Godfrey opened up about how they met 25 years ago. He recalled visiting his brother, who had previously told him about a “beautiful girl” he wanted to introduce to him as a surprise. When Godfrey arrived and saw Kate for the first time, he immediately liked her and fell in love.
However, their relationship was far from easy. As their love grew deeper and they decided to take the next step, introducing each other to their families, they encountered resistance. Godfrey revealed that when Kate introduced him to her family, they were unhappy with what they saw and strongly opposed their marriage, urging her not to proceed.
Narrating, his wife Kate said: “They told me he is too ugly we don’t want him, They kept putting pressure on me that the man i brought they don’t want him It wasn’t easy because the whole family was up against me So i told them that if they don’t like him it doesn’t matter because i love him and we will live together whether they like it or not.
Kate also shared that it wasn’t just her family that disapproved of their relationship—her friends mocked her as well. They repeatedly told her that Godfrey wasn’t the “perfect match” for her. With so much opposition against their union, the couple decided to live together without getting married at first, and during that time, they had four children.
Despite the struggles, their love endured, and they eventually got legally married. Kate proudly noted that those who once mocked her were left in shame when they realized the kind of man Godfrey truly was—God-fearing, kind-hearted, and even popular.
When asked why he agreed to be called Mr Ugly, he added saying: “In 2000 a man came to me he called ABTEX, he is an event organizer in Uganda he thought about an event it was all about the Ugliest people he then looked for me and he also found other ugly people like me they made a competition and i won when i stepped on stage and people saw me whoever saw me ran away That was when i realized i was really ugly.
How his wife feels about his looks after he won, she said: “When i heard it i was filled with joy I was very happy on that day.
When they asked Kate why she married Godfrey, she said: “As we kept talking our communication was perfect, I saw honesty in him and i was testified that I was not mistaken that he is still the same man i loved in the past
When asked if she loved him for money, she replied: “He didn’t have money and he does not have money until now.”
