EKITI LG VICE CHAIRMAN REMANDED OVER ALLEGED SELF-KIDNAPPING

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Grace Ogunleye, over her alleged involvement in a self-kidnapping case.

The remand order was issued on Thursday by Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun after Ogunleye was arraigned on multiple charges connected to the alleged staged abduction.

The court directed that she be held at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending the duplication of the case file and its transfer to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

Ogunleye was reported kidnapped on May 20 along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti Road. Her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside, sparking concerns and prompting security agencies to launch a rescue operation.

The search involved personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military and local security operatives before she was found the following day.

According to preliminary findings by the police, the alleged abduction was staged as part of a plan to raise funds for financial commitments and political obligations.

The matter has been adjourned pending further directives from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
