The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command, has deployed 1,650 personnel across the state to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, disclosed this during a strategic security meeting with Area Commanders and Divisional Officers held at the Command Headquarters along Iwo-Ibadan Road, Ido-Osun, according to a statement issued by the Command spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Sotiyo said “the deployment formed part of intensified overt and covert security operations designed to maintain law and order before, during and after the festive period.”
He directed officers to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid response operations across the state throughout the celebration.
“I charge you all to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid response operations before, during and after the festive period.
“You are expected to collaborate with other sister security agencies for a peaceful celebration,” he added.
According to the Commandant, security personnel would be stationed at Eid prayer grounds, motor parks, markets, recreational centres and other vulnerable locations across Osun State.
He stated that the command would also ensure the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure during the celebrations.
“We are aware that there will be an influx of people into Osun State for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration; hence, the Command has strengthened its operational strategies and deployed adequate personnel across strategic locations to ensure the safety of lives and property,” Sotiyo said.
He warned criminal elements, vandals and other unscrupulous persons to stay away from the state, stressing that the command was prepared to deal decisively with anyone attempting to disrupt public peace.
The Commandant directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to maintain strict supervision of deployed personnel while also strengthening collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, local government authorities and other security stakeholders, especially in border communities.
Sotiyo urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies for prompt intervention.
