Ex-IGP Adamu leaves APC, cites irregularities in primaries

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) just days after losing the party’s governorship primary to Sen. Aliyu Wadada.

On Monday, the former police chief submitted his resignation letter to the Makama ward executives in Lafia.

“This decision was not taken lightly however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary election processes in Nasarawa State have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the platform of the party,” he said.

According to Adamu, the ruling party lacks internal democracy, justice, transparency, and equal opportunities for aspirants and members, all of which are essential for governing any democratic political organization.

He stated, “I strongly think that internal democracy, fairness, openness, and equal chance for aspirants and members should govern the business of any democratic political organization.

“Unfortunately the events surrounding the primary election did not reflect this principle and have led to a loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the processes in the state.”

He further stated that his decision to withdraw his membership from the party to pursue his political ambitions elsewhere was made after extensive conversations with supporters, political associates, and family members.

He did, however, appreciate the opportunity to serve and contribute to the party’s expansion during his membership, and he thanked party members at the ward, local government, and state levels for the collaboration and relationships formed during his time with the party.
