EFCC arraigns Abuja hotel CEO over alleged N15m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Aminu Datti Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Blackrock Apartments & Suites Limited, before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi, Abuja, over an alleged N15 million fraud.

According to a statement by the anti-graft agency, Ahmed was brought before Justice Muhammad Idris on a one-count charge bordering on the alleged dishonest conversion of funds.

The EFCC said the case stems from a N15 million sum that was mistakenly transferred into Ahmed’s Taj Bank account instead of the intended recipient, Braverock Investment Limited, as part of a property acquisition transaction.

The commission alleged that Ahmed failed to return the money after discovering the error and instead converted it for personal use.

The charge reads in part that Ahmed “dishonestly converted to his personal use the sum of N15,000,000, which was mistakenly credited” to his account.

The alleged offence is said to contravene Sections 308 and 309 of the Penal Code Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Ahmed pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

Following his plea, EFCC counsel, N.M. Tertsua, urged the court to fix a date for trial and requested that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility.

However, defence counsel, Isyaku Musa, applied for bail, a request that was not opposed by the prosecution.

In his ruling, Justice Idris granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties.

The court stipulated that one of the sureties must be a businessman with a valid business certificate and must swear to an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned until October 21, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
