The Ministry of Defence has denied reports claiming that the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has resigned or attempted to resign from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ministry described the reports, which circulated widely on social media, as false and misleading, insisting that the minister remains fully in office and continues to carry out his responsibilities.
In a statement released on Monday, the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, dismissed the claim and urged Nigerians to ignore the publication.
According to her, there was no truth in the reports suggesting that Musa had submitted a resignation letter or was planning to leave his position in the Federal Executive Council.
“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehoods borne out of complete mischief,” she said.
The ministry noted that the Defence Minister remains committed to the task of strengthening national security and supporting ongoing military operations across the country.
Katung-Babatunde said Musa has continued to work closely with security agencies and military authorities in addressing security challenges facing different parts of the nation.
She stated that the minister’s attention remains focused on implementing the defence policies and security objectives of the Federal Government.
“The Minister remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy, with results already being seen,” she stated.
The ministry said the report was deliberately designed to create confusion among members of the public and distract from ongoing efforts aimed at improving security across the country.
It stressed that there has been no disagreement or development that would warrant the minister’s resignation, adding that the claims were entirely fabricated.
The statement further called on Nigerians to exercise caution when consuming information on social media, warning that false reports can easily gain traction when they are shared without proper verification.
The ministry urged journalists, bloggers and social media users to confirm information through official channels before publishing or reposting such claims.
According to Katung-Babatunde, the office of the minister remains open to inquiries from media organisations seeking clarification on matters relating to the ministry and its leadership.
“We strongly advise media outlets and internet users to desist from spreading unverified information and seek clarifications from the office,” she said.
The ministry therefore urged the public to disregard the resignation rumour and rely on official statements for accurate information concerning the activities of the Defence Minister and the Federal Ministry of Defence.
