The Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Ibadan Chapter, has taken its school outreach programme to Basorun/Ojoo High School, along Ashi-Bodija Road, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, with a call on students to remain focused on their studies and shun illicit drugs.
The outreach, which featured a career talk and mentoring session, was aimed at exposing the students, particularly the girl-child, to career opportunities in accounting and encouraging them to become responsible members of society.
Speaking during the programme, the Chairperson of SWAN Ibadan Chapter, Mrs Adedipe Atinuke Victoria, said the initiative was part of the society’s efforts to empower the girl-child and help young people make informed decisions about their future.

Adedipe urged the students to stay away from illicit drugs and other activities capable of distracting them from their academic pursuits.
She also introduced the students to the accounting profession, describing it as a versatile and highly sought-after career that offers opportunities for professional growth and leadership.
She further enlightened them on the various pathways to becoming Chartered Accountants and the role of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in the profession.
“We came to tell them about the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and how they can become accountants and everything they need to know about the profession.
“The programme is designed to impact lives positively and also to let the girl-child know that they are important in the society,” she told TRIBUNE ONLINE shortly after the event.
Reacting to the initiative, Pastor Ayoola Stephen Oluyinka expressed appreciation to SWAN Ibadan for taking the outreach to the school, saying the programme would encourage the students to take their studies more seriously.
“We express our profound gratitude to SWAN Ibadan for this laudable intervention. We will also ensure that the students put all that they learned this morning to practice,” he said.
The highlight of the programme was the presentation of books and other educational materials to the students.
The students, in turn, expressed appreciation to the society for the gesture and the opportunity to learn more about career development and the accounting profession.
SWAN is the female arm of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, inaugurated in 1978 with the mission of bringing female accountants together, mentoring young professionals, and providing a strong support network to help women thrive professionally and personally.
