Burna Boy becomes first African artiste to top Billboard Global 200 chart

Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy has made history as the first African artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart.

The milestone comes through “Dai Dai,” his collaborative FIFA World Cup song with Shakira, which climbed to the top of both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts this week.

The song also continued its strong performance in the United States, rising 12 places to a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian singer Tems also recorded another career milestone as her song “What You Need” climbed five places to a new peak of No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after 15 weeks on the chart.

The track recently reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban Radio Airplay chart, making Tems the first solo African artist to achieve those radio milestones.

The achievements mark another significant moment for African music on the global stage, with both Burna Boy and Tems continuing to expand the international reach of Afrobeats.
