The First Lady of Bauchi State, Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Bauchi State Headquarters of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), reaffirming her commitment to the fight against illicit drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
She was received by the Commander of Narcotics, CN Hassan Yaqub, and senior officers of the Command, according to a statement by ACN Umele Mary, PSO Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Bauchi State Command.
During the visit, the First Lady, also known as the 1st Sarauniya of Bauchi, commended CN Yaqub and his team for their “continuous and unwavering commitment” to making Bauchi safer and protecting communities from the harmful effects of drugs.
Dr. Aisha demonstrated support for persons in custody and those undergoing rehabilitation. She donated relief materials including yards of fabric, table and sachet water, foodstuffs, soaps, disinfectants, and bleach to support suspects and clients at the Command’s facility.
As part of the visit, the First Lady undertook an inspection tour of key units within the Command. She visited the Rehabilitation Unit, Cell Facility, and Exhibit Room to assess welfare conditions, rehabilitation activities, and operational procedures.
Her inspection of the cell facility highlighted concern for the dignity and humane treatment of persons in custody, while her tour of the Rehabilitation Unit underscored the importance of treatment and reintegration in tackling substance abuse.
Describing the visit as more than ceremonial, the First Lady called it “a demonstration of compassion, encouragement, partnership, and shared responsibility” in the campaign against drug abuse in Bauchi State.
Responding, CN Hassan Yaqub expressed appreciation for the donations, encouragement, and continued support. He said the gesture reinforces that the fight against illicit drugs is a collective responsibility requiring government, agencies, communities, families, and individuals.
“The NDLEA Bauchi State Command remains resolute in strengthening stakeholder collaboration and intensifying operational and preventive efforts toward building a safer, healthier, and drug-free Bauchi State,” Yaqub stated.
