Bauchi: “Don’t take law into your own hands” — NYSC warns corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned the 1,700 corps members deployed to Bauchi State against indiscipline and taking the law into their own hands during their service year.

The NYSC Bauchi State Coordinator, Umoren Kufre, issued the warning on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in the state.

Kufre urged the corps members to conduct themselves responsibly and adhere to the rules and regulations guiding the national service scheme.

He also advised them to use the appropriate channels to report complaints or address issues that may arise during their service year.

“In case you notice any irregularity, do not take the law into your hands; always ensure that you follow the proper channel of communication to express your grievances,” he said.

The coordinator said the orientation programme was designed to prepare the corps members for the demands and challenges they could encounter during their national service.

According to him, activities lined up for the orientation include paramilitary drills, physical exercises, lectures, citizenship and leadership training, as well as skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.

Kufre commended the corps members for their conduct since their arrival at the orientation camp, noting that they had participated actively in the various activities without any major incident.

He urged them to maintain discipline, humility, patriotism and loyalty throughout their service year.

The NYSC coordinator also assured the corps members that their welfare and security remained a priority throughout their stay in the state.

He commended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his continued support for the NYSC scheme and its activities in the state.

Representing the governor at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bashir Yau, encouraged the corps members to approach their service year with seriousness and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.

The swearing-in formally marked the commencement of their orientation programme and the next phase of their national service.
