The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sympathy with residents affected by the recent flooding in Lagos State.
In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, the former vice president lamented the devastation caused by the flood, noting that it had disrupted the lives and livelihoods of many residents, including families, motorists, commuters and business owners.
He said, “I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the people of Lagos who have been affected by the ongoing flooding. My thoughts are with the families, motorists, commuters, business owners and everyone whose lives and livelihoods were disrupted by this unfortunate event.”
Atiku said the disaster highlighted the importance of unity and compassion during difficult times, urging Nigerians to support one another.
“At moments like this, we are reminded of the strength of our shared humanity and the importance of standing together in support of one another.
“I pray for the safety of all, for a swift return to normalcy,” he added.
His message follows widespread flooding in several parts of Lagos, including Gbagada, Iyana Ipaja, Ikorodu Road, Ikeja, Maryland, Mushin, Ogudu, Lekki, Oshodi, Agege, Alimosho and Obalende, after heavy rainfall that began on Sunday.
The flooding also affected major highways such as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and Lekki-Epe Expressway, leading to severe traffic gridlock across the state.
