Private Utim Terwase honoured for demonstrating honesty, discipline and professionalism in the line of duty.
The Nigerian Army has rewarded Private Utim Terwase with ₦500,000 for rejecting an alleged ₦500,000 bribe offered by a suspected kidnapper in Plateau State.
Terwase reportedly apprehended the suspect after an attempted escape but refused to accept the money allegedly offered in exchange for the suspect’s release. Instead, he handed the individual over to the appropriate authorities.
The reward was presented on Wednesday on behalf of the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Maxwell Dangana, by the Commander of Sector 6, Colonel Philimon Malgwi.
Speaking during the presentation, Major General Dangana commended the soldier for upholding the values of integrity, discipline and commitment expected of military personnel.
He described Terwase’s conduct as an example of military professionalism, loyalty and accountability, urging other officers and soldiers serving under Operation Enduring Peace to emulate his actions.
The Army said the recognition was intended to encourage integrity and strengthen professionalism among its personnel.
The ₦500,000 reward is equivalent to the amount the soldier reportedly rejected from the suspected kidnapper.
The development has highlighted the importance of honesty and accountability among security personnel, particularly in the fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities.
