The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency by-election in Kano State, with its candidate, Hussaini Yusuf-Datti, securing 22,890 votes.
Yusuf-Datti defeated his closest challenger, Habib Hamisu of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), who polled 270 votes, giving the APC candidate a winning margin of 22,620 votes.
The result was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Ibrahim Tajo-Suraj, after the completion of the collation of results in Dawakin Kudu.
According to the final results, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Abdullahi Adamu, came third with 108 votes, while Bala Mohammed-Sani of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) secured 89 votes.
Aliyu Abdullahi of the All Peoples Party (APP) polled 53 votes, while Labour Party candidate, Abubakar Yahya-Mohammed, received 39 votes.
Declaring the result, the returning officer said Yusuf-Datti had fulfilled the legal requirements and obtained the highest number of votes cast in the election.
He consequently declared Yusuf-Datti the winner and returned him elected as the representative of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.
The by-election followed the departure of the former occupant of the seat, Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, to the House of Representatives.
The victory means the APC has regained the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa seat in the Kano State House of Assembly, with Yusuf-Datti expected to assume legislative duties represent
