Anambra police arrest alleged secessionist, recover army uniform, 40 ammunition shells

The Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, of the Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, suspected to be linked to a criminal gang agitating for self-government.

The arrest was made on the evening of Thursday, 13th August 2026, in Umudioka, following credible intelligence.

According to the police, a search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of one army uniform and 40 expended shells of ammunition concealed in a black polythene bag.

The Command said the suspect has been taken into custody for investigation, while efforts are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the recovered items and his alleged activities.

The operation was part of the Command’s sustained security raids across the state, in line with directives from the IGP and CP Nnanna Oji Ama, to tackle violent crimes, cultism and other threats to public safety.

CP Ama reiterated that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led operations and strategic patrols to dismantle criminal networks and deny them safe havens across Anambra State.
