Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, as a remarkable victory achieved in the face of what he described as overwhelming political opposition.
Davido spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists at his country home following Adeleke’s victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Congratulating the governor, the singer said the contest was more than an ordinary political battle, describing it as a “war” in which several governors, senators and members of the House of Representatives allegedly lined up against Adeleke.
“Let me congratulate my governor for his re-election for the hard-fought battle. Let me not say battle but war, where you have 17 governors, 50 senators, House of Reps, I don’t know how many they were against one man and he came out victorious. God is good,” Davido said.
The singer attributed the victory largely to the support of Osun voters, whom he praised for standing by the governor and protecting their votes during the election.
Davido said the level of public support shown to Adeleke and the wider family during the poll was overwhelming, adding that he became emotional on several occasions while watching events unfold.
“I can’t remember how many times I cried that day because the love was massive,” he said.
He said Adeleke’s re-election should serve as a lesson to other political leaders across Nigeria, arguing that governors who genuinely work for the people would ultimately enjoy the support of the electorate.
“My uncle should be an example to all other people out there. It shows all other governors out there that if you work for the people, the people will be with you and God,” Davido said.
The singer also thanked the people of Osun State for supporting Adeleke and the family despite what he described as attempts at intimidation and vote-buying during the election.
He maintained that the outcome reflected the willingness of voters to stand by a government they believed had worked in their interest.
Adeleke secured a second term after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, in the August 15 poll.
The singer, who serves as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, said he deliberately held back some of his planned initiatives until after the governorship election.

“As chairman of the Sports Trust Fund, I want to do a lot of things but waited for the election to be over,” he said.
According to Davido, one of the major initiatives under consideration is the development of a recreation centre for young people in the state.
He said the proposed facility would include football pitches, swimming pools and basketball courts, among other sporting and recreational amenities.
Davido explained that the centre would be designed to give young people opportunities to discover, develop and showcase their talents while also promoting healthy recreation.
The singer has remained one of Adeleke’s most vocal celebrity supporters and was actively involved in the governor’s campaign ahead of the election.
