12 killed in Plateau midnight attack, victims buried in mass funeral

Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that 12 persons were killed during a midnight attack by gunmen on the Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall district of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to Alabo Alfred, the victims were buried in a mass grave shortly after the attack.

“From the information we received, 12 people were killed in the attack and the victims had already been buried this morning,” Alfred said, while expressing sadness over the incident.

Reports indicate that the attackers invaded the community around midnight while residents were asleep, shooting sporadically and causing panic as many fled their homes for safety. Some reports suggested that 13 people were affected in the attack, including three pregnant women.

Philip Alanga said the assailants moved through the area firing gunshots indiscriminately, forcing residents to escape into nearby bushes.

Reacting to the incident, Danjuma Auta condemned the recurring violence in Bassa LGA and other parts of Plateau State, urging security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The latest killings add to ongoing security concerns in Plateau State, where repeated communal and armed attacks have continued to claim lives and displace residents.
