The Federal Government has explained why some Nigerians are yet to receive text message notifications for its ₦50,000 relief payment, saying beneficiaries are being contacted in batches.
The clarification was contained in the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) website.
According to the government, payment providers are contacting selected beneficiaries in phases. This means some recipients may receive their notifications later, even as others have already been contacted.
However, the government warned that not everyone would be selected in the current phase because the programme is designed to support a limited number of vulnerable households at a time.
Beneficiaries are selected using verified national identity records and the National Social Register. The government also stressed that nobody can pay to secure a place on the list or speed up a payment.
Selected beneficiaries receive SMS notifications from approved providers, including ALAT, MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB), NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint. The ₦50,000 support is a grant, not a loan.
How to check your eligibility
Dial the USSD code of your approved payment provider and select the Check eligibility option. If you are not selected, the system will display: “You are currently not selected to receive this relief support.”
Do not pay anyone who promises to add your name or accelerate your payment. Such offers are fraudulent. For enquiries, call the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
