₦50,000 Monthly Relief: FG Makes Fresh Statement on Possible Changes to Beneficiaries Payments

The Federal Government says the ₦50,000 monthly relief for selected vulnerable Nigerians may be adjusted as living costs change.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, said the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) would be reviewed regularly. Beneficiaries would be notified directly before any adjustment.

The statement was issued on October 30, when the government announced the intervention to help vulnerable households cope with rising food prices and essential goods.

Eligible beneficiaries receive ₦50,000 monthly through approved digital financial service providers. Payments go into bank accounts or mobile wallets after recipients receive a text message and give consent.

The government has not announced an increase or reduction. It has only confirmed that the amount may be reviewed in response to living costs, with affected beneficiaries notified before changes take effect.

What beneficiaries should know

The ₦50,000 support is a grant, not a loan, and does not have to be repaid. Beneficiaries do not need to apply or pay agents. Anyone asked for money should contact the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222 for assistance or to verify suspicious messages.
