Wizkid remembers late singer, Joey Grant with touching video

Nigerian Afrobeats icon, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has continued to mourn the death of British singer and instrumentalist, Joey Grant.

Wizkid and Joey, who is popularly known as Joeybass, are close friends who have also performed on stage at different times.

The Starboy took to his Twitter page on Thursday, August 11, to remember his good friend with an emotionally powerful video clip.

The throwback footage captured both of them performing on at the presigious O2 Arena during his concert in London. Wizkid was singing while Joey played the guitar.

News of Joeybass’ death broke early August and Big Wiz had taken to his Instagram story to mourn him.

The ‘Fever’ crooner penned a short condolence message to the late British music expert as he spoke fondly about the times they shared together. He also thanked Joeybass for sharing the light with him.

The award-winning singer had written: “RIP Joey, thank you for sharing your light with me.”

A host of stage and music performers also paid tribute to Joey, who had been in hospital for an unspecified medical condition.

Grant was in the band for the award-winning musical Come From Away, with co-star Alice Fearn, who wrote Twitter: So hard to process. The larger-than-life, joyful, vivacious, kind, big-hearted beast of a musician Joey Grant has left us. Heaven gained a bass-playing legend today and we lost a friend and the coolest member of Come From Away UK.

Another cast member, Sam Oladeinde, said: Every day since I joined Come From Away, he would brighten up my day with his talent, smile, energy and joy. He really wouldn’t want me to cry but in this moment, I can’t stop. I will miss him dearly. I pray for his beautiful young family. It’s just not fair. RIP Mr Joey Grant.
