William Saliba issues a challenge to Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal defender William Saliba has thrown down the gauntlet to his teammates, urging them not to drop any more points if they aim to break their 20-year drought and clinch the Premier League title this season.
With Mikel Arteta’s side currently topping the table with five games remaining, albeit only ahead of Liverpool on goal difference and with Manchester City lurking one point behind with a game in hand, Saliba emphasized the importance of maintaining maximum pressure by winning all their remaining fixtures.
“Anything can happen in the last five games,” the Frenchman remarked. “If we want something at the end, we have to win. It will be very tough because we are so close to Liverpool and City, but we started well [against Wolves on Saturday] and have to keep going.”
Arsenal suffered an agonizing setback last season, setting an unwanted Premier League record for spending the most time in first place without claiming the title. Saliba, a standout performer, missed crucial games in April and May due to a back injury, coinciding with a dip in form for the team.
Now, with Saliba back in top form for the 2023/24 season, Arsenal’s focus is solely on the Premier League title race. Their upcoming fixtures against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, Manchester United, and Everton will be crucial in determining their fate.
