Why Nigerians should give Tinubu second term — Yahaya Bello

Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, saying the country needs continuity, courage and sustained leadership to consolidate the reforms and progress of the current administration.

Bello said President Tinubu inherited a nation confronted by difficult economic and security challenges and took decisions that, though demanding sacrifices from Nigerians, were aimed at laying a stronger foundation for long-term national recovery and prosperity.

According to the former governor, leadership should not be judged only by the difficulties of the moment but also by the courage to confront deep-rooted problems and create a pathway towards a better future.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves the support of Nigerians because he has demonstrated the courage to take responsibility at a difficult period in our national history,” Bello said.

He noted that Nigeria’s economic and security challenges were not created overnight and could not realistically be solved overnight, arguing that changing direction midway through major reforms could undermine the gains already being pursued.

Bello said the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda represented an opportunity for Nigerians to build a more stable and productive economy, strengthen national institutions and create greater opportunities for young people.

The former governor, who has repeatedly declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election, said continuity in government policies was essential for sustainable development.

“We must learn to look beyond immediate political considerations. Nation-building is not a one-day assignment. Important reforms require patience, consistency and the opportunity for those entrusted with leadership to complete the work they have started,” he said.

Bello also praised Tinubu’s political history and contribution to Nigeria’s democratic development, describing the President as a leader who has remained committed to democratic ideals and progressive politics over the years.

He said Tinubu had demonstrated resilience and political experience at different stages of Nigeria’s democratic journey and possessed the capacity to lead the country through challenging times.

The former governor further commended the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the fight against insecurity, particularly through intelligence-led operations and collaboration between federal and state authorities.

While acknowledging that Nigerians still face serious challenges, Bello urged citizens not to lose faith in the country’s future.

He called on political leaders and citizens to place national interest above personal ambition and partisan disagreements, stressing that Nigeria needed unity and collective commitment to overcome its challenges.

According to him, the 2027 election should provide Nigerians with an opportunity to make a choice based on the need for stability, policy continuity and the consolidation of ongoing reforms.

“President Tinubu should be allowed to continue the work he has begun. Nigeria needs stability, consistency and leadership that is prepared to take difficult decisions in the interest of future generations,” Bello said.

He urged Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political lines to support the President, insisting that a second term would provide the administration with the opportunity to consolidate its agenda and advance the country’s economic recovery, security and democratic development.

Bello’s position is consistent with his previous public declarations endorsing Tinubu’s re-election and describing the President’s second-term bid as a cause deserving his full political support.
