Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma has said that next year’s general election will be about electing a Nigerian president not an Igbo or Yoruba president.

He stated this during Channels TV programme, Politics Today on Tuesday, adding that the outcome of the 2023 election would determine whether he and the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu are accepted by the people of Imo.

The former lawmaker also said it his responsibility is to convince indigenes of the state to vote his party’s presidential flagbearer.

He said; “I belong to a political party. I have the responsibility to convince my people that my party has the best programmes for the country. I will convince voters.

“Let me take the programmes of my political party to my people; let me market the programmes of my political party to my people.

“Let the election come, let my people vote. Then, the outcome of the election will determine whether they accepted my party or my candidate.

“The presidential election is an election for a Nigerian President, not an Igbo President…Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the candidate of APC to be President of Nigeria, not President of Igbo, or Yoruba or Hausa.”

In other news, President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigerians are not fair in their assessment of his administration’s performance as he has performed “extremely well” but people still refuse to commend him.

This is also as he accused the country’s elite of not being concerned enough about Nigeria and its numerous issues.

Buhari spoke on Tuesday in Owerri, Imo state after inaugurating some projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodinma.

He said; “In terms of time and resources, this administration has done extremely well. I have to say it because those who are supposed to say it are not saying it. I don’t know why.”

According to the president, when he assumed office in 2015, many local government areas in Borno and Adamawa states in the North East were controlled by Boko Haram terrorists, but that is no longer the case.

He also condemned the past administrations of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo, for failing to develop the country’s infrastructure despite earning so much from crude oil.

The president went on to list the achievements of his government in the past seven years.
